Rediscovering the World of Mystic Thamburatti!

Greetings!

I’m a Punyachi Mulgi on a mission – trading my chappals for a compass to rediscovering myself and my Kerala tharavadu roots. This is going to be a crazy whimsical journey of a Mystic Thamburatti; ancestral stories, culinary secrets that would make even a thamburatti swoon, and textiles so gorgeous, they’re practically heirlooms.

My connection to Kerala was once limited to childhood vacations and the faint memory of my maternal ancestral home (sold for a sum that wouldn’t even buy a decent flat in Pune today, ahem, 3 lacs, in 1983!). After my maternal ancestral home was sold, the umbilical cord with Kerala was snipped off until 2007 when the great Thamburatti aka my mom moved back to live in Thrissur, Kerala.

Here I am slowly trying to piece back that snipped cord by slowly rediscovering Mystic Thamburatti roots. Join me as I navigate the rediscovery of my heritage, one appam, one sulaimani and one kasavu saree at a time.”
